Normandie (Normaundie) là một địa phận ở tây bắc nước Pháp, dọc bờ biển Manche, giữa Bretagne (phía tây) và Picardie (phía bắc).
Normandy is one of the regions of France . Normandy’s name is derived from the settlement of the territory by mainly Norwegian and Danish Vikings ( Northmen ) from the 9th century, and confirmed by treaty in the 10th century between King Charles III of France and Eral Rollo of More , Norway . For a century and a half following the Nordman Conquest of England in 1066, Normandy and England were linked by Norman and Frankish rulers.

In France , boudin is traditionally prepared in charcuteries, shops that prepare mainly pork products (and sometimes duck and game), but also sell smoked and dried sausages , pates and terrines , along with prepared salads. It is usually called boudin noir and is often made with cream with apples or onions as a filler. In southern Normandy holds an annual contest of international blood sausage specialities.

The idea of building a basilica at Lisieux in honour of the newly canonised saint (1925) met with much opposition from the local clergy. The town already possessed many religious buildings and it was thought that devotion to Thérèse, which enjoyed great popularity among the French soldiers during the First World War, had had its day.
However, Bishop Lemonnier was not persuaded by these objections. In 1925, he commissioned a Parisian architect to draw up a preliminary design. But the proposed design provoked many criticisms. It was felt – most notably abroad – that the proportions were somewhat cramped.
For the most loved Saint in the world, nothing but the most beautiful basilica would suffice.Total surface area 4,500 m² Height of dome 90 m Height below vault 34 m.

Saint Thérèse of Lisieux (born Marie Françoise-Thérèse Martin; January 2, 1873 – September 30, 1897), or Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face, O.C.D., was a Roman Catholic French Discalced Carmelite nun widely venerated in modern times. She is popularly known as „The Little Flower of Jesus“ or simply „The Little Flower“.
Thérèse has been a highly influential model of sanctity for Catholics and for others because of the „simplicity and practicality of her approach to the spiritual life“. Together with Saint Francis of Assisi, she is one of the most popular saints in the history of the church.Pope Pius X called her „the greatest saint of modern times“ while his successor[5][6] Pope Pius XI accorded her as the Patroness of the Gardens of Vatican City on 11 May 1927, granting her the title as the „Sacred Keeper of the Gardens'“.

Deauville
The history of Deauville can be traced back to 1060, when seigneur Hubert du Mont-Canisy dominated the magnificent land which was previously known as Auevilla. In 1066, Hubert du Mont-Canisy left to follow William the Conqueror to England. Until 1860, Deauville went from the reign of one mayor to another and slowly became famous as horse territory and for cultivating sainfoin. Duc Charles Auguste Louis Joseph de Morny, half brother of the emperor Napoleon III, transformed Deauville into a more travelled resort. Before the death of the Duc in 1865, certain key investments were made that would transform Deauville’s history.

The escargot is a cooked land snail. Escargots are usually served as a starter in Portugal, Spain and in France, and are a typical dish in the Catalan region of Spain.

Normandy is a major cider-producing region (very little wine is produced). Perry is also produced, but in less significant quantities. Apple brandy, of which the most famous variety is calvados, is also popular.

Le Jour le plus long (The Longest Day)
“ The war will be won or lost on these beaches . We have one chance to repel the enemy , and that’s when he’s in the water, splashing and struggling to come to earth. Our reinforcements will never arrive at the scene of the attack and it would be folly to expect them. The Hauptkampflinie ( main line of resistance ) will be here . All our forces must be located along the coast . Believe me Lang, the first twenty- four hours of the invasion will be decisive … For the Allies , as for Germany, it will be the longest day . “
Erwin Johannes Eugen Rommel (15 November 1891 – 14 October 1944), popularly known as the Desert Fox, was a highly decorated officer in World War I and was awarded the Pour le Merite for his actions on the Italian Front . In World War II, he distinguished himself as the commander of the 7th Panzer Division during the 1940 Invasion of France . His leadership of German and Italian forces in the North African Campaign established his reputation as one of the most able commanders of the war, and earned him the appellation of „the Desert Fox“. He later commanded the German forces opposing the Allied cross-channel Invasion of Mormandy in June 1944.
